Simple Monogram Tutorial

OK, so a couple of weeks ago I ran across this little technique and it was one of those "Wow, why didn't I think of that before?" moments.  Monograms have been a big trend with wedding cakes now for a couple of years.  I do at least one or two monograms a month.  I have several different methods I use, but this will be my new "simple monogram" method.  And I must confess that I been obsessed with Pinterest lately, so I asked Chaddy to help me make my tutorial "Pinterest Friendly".  I'm not sure that it is Pinterest Friendly (its longer than I expected), and I'm not so sure how it will look here on the blog.  But I suppose that's the way we learn - whether it's cake decorating or blogging, huh?  It's always an adventure!!

1. What you need: Monogram printed on regular paper (I used PowerPoint), scissors, razor knife, rolling pin, gumpaste. 2. Use your razor knife to carefully cut out your monogram. If you have a Cricut / Sihouette, this will be really easy!. 3. Roll out your material, place your paper template on it, and roll over it with heavy pressure. Don't let the template move! 4. Look at that! Now you can cut out the letters, or cut out the oval and pipe over or paint the mongram letters. Neat huh?
OK, so I could already tell by the preview that things were looking a little wonky, so I resized the image and it looks pretty good now.  Let me know what you think in the comments!

Georgia Bulldogs Groom's Cake

Guys like sports, so it goes without saying that I do a lot of sports team cakes for my grooms.  And since I do a lot of wedding cakes in Georgia, Georgia Bulldog cakes are all the rage!  And since every couple has different needs, I try to offer something that can fit any couple's wedding budget.

This oval cake is a great option.  Simple buttercream cake with fondant ribbon edge on top and bottom and a "G" topper cut from black modeling chocolate.  Even a simple design can make a big impact!

Thanks for stopping by and check back in on Tuesday to see who won the Money Cake System Giveaway!  You still have until Friday 5:00pm EST to register!

Lace Recreation Wedding Cake

I did this cake a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed doing it.  So much so that I am planning on doing a display cake in a similar fashion.

This bride wanted the ornate lacework on her dress recreated on her cake. She provided me with a scan of the lace pattern.  We printed it out and then traced it on copy paper.  From that black and white drawing, we could scan it in and resize it to fit the cake.

Once it was the right size, I went to work with my Sugar Veil icing tracing that lacework over and over.

My brother even made a new custom cake stand to place this cake on!  The bride liked it so much, she just decided that she would purchase it as a keepsake.  How sweet is that?
